Swiss Skydiver tops field of five in Santa Anita Oaks

Unlike her last two victories, there will be no element of surprise if Swiss Skydiver is successful in Saturday's $200,000 Santa Anita Oaks (G2) on Saturday.

Postponed two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 1 1/16-mile Santa Anita Oaks will offer Kentucky Oaks (G1) qualifying points of 100-40-20-10 to the top four finishers. Only five 3-year-old fillies passed the entry box.

Swiss Skydiver already has more than enough points to get into the Sept. 4 Kentucky Oaks, having earned 200 points for upset wins in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) at 9-1 and the Fantasy (G3) at Oaklawn Park at 16-1. The latter came at the expense of the highly-regard California filly Venetian Harbor, and Swiss Skydiver figures to go favored this time.

Speech has run second in all three starts this year, including the Mar. 20 Santa Ysabel (G3). Last time, she just missed in an Oaklawn allowance after a scintillating stretch battle with Gamine.

Smiling Shirlee enters off a half-length score in the 6-furlong Evening Jewel S. for California-breds, while Regal Beauty and Merneith both enter off maiden wins in their respective third career starts.
