The best two-year-old dirt fillies in the United States will square off against a pair of formidable challengers from Japan in Friday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Del Mar.
In addition to its rich purse, the Juvenile Fillies awards Road to the Kentucky Oaks qualification points on a 30-15-9-6-3 basis to the top five finishers.

Vodka With a Twist has shown fine form sprinting, finishing second in the Del Mar Debutante (G1) and Sorrento (G3). But she’s yet to race farther than seven furlongs, so stretching out in distance for the Breeders’ Cup is a question mark.
Snowyte
Start(s): 2
Wins: 0
Place: 2
Show: 0
Owner: Pine Racing Stables, Don Alberto Stable, Belmar Racing and Breeding, and R. A. Hill Stable

Top Speed Rating: (86) when finishing second in her debut at Saratoga.
Total Earnings: $100,000
Sire: Good Magic
Dam: Snow Fall
Color: Bay
Snowyte might be a 0-for-2 maiden, but she’s run well against tough competition, finishing second in the Frizette (G1) on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks. It’s worth noting seven of the last 13 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winners prepped in the Frizette.
Immersive
Start(s): 3
Wins: 3
Place: 0
Show: 0
Owner: Godolphin
Breeder: Godolphin
Trainer: Brad Cox
Jockey: Manny Franco
Top Speed Rating: (91) when winning the Spinaway (G1) at Saratoga.
Total Earnings: $582,700
Sire: Nyquist
Dam: Gap Year
Color: Bay
Immersive is undefeated in three starts, most notably winning the Spinaway (G1) and Alcibiades (G1). In the latter race, a 1 1/16-mile Road to the Kentucky Oaks qualifier, Immersive prevailed by 1 1/4 lengths despite racing wide over an inside-favoring track. She has every chance to keep her unbeaten record intact at Del Mar.
La Cara
Start(s): 5
Wins: 2
Place: 1
Show: 0
Owner: Tracy Farmer
Breeder: Tracy Farmer
Trainer: Mark Casse
Jockey: Ricardo Santana Jr.
Top Speed Rating: (91) when breaking her maiden at Saratoga.
Total Earnings: $258,520
Sire: Street Sense
Dam: Cara Caterina
Color: Bay
La Cara lost her first three starts but has since won two straight, including the one-mile Pocahontas (G3) on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks. She’s won setting the pace and when rallying from behind, so La Cara brings a versatile and improving profile into the Juvenile Fillies.
Quickick
Start(s): 3
Wins: 1
Place: 1
Show: 1
Owner: Greg Tramontin
Breeder: Gainesway Thoroughbreds and Whisper Hill Farm
Trainer: Tom Amoss
Jockey: Dylan Davis
Top Speed Rating: (90) when breaking her maiden at Saratoga.
Total Earnings: $184,000
Sire: McKinzie
Dam: Graeme Six
Color: Bay
Quickick broke her maiden at Saratoga over a strong field that included Snowyte and Scottish Lassie, then finished second with a wide run down the homestretch of the Alcibiades. Never out of the top three in a trio of starts, Quickick consistently holds her own against tough competition and can’t be counted out of the mix for a top-four finish in the Juvenile Fillies.
Otomena Shacho
Start(s): 3
Wins: 1
Place: 1
Show: 1
Owner: Miki House H.K. Service
Breeder: Sather Family
Trainer: Hideyuki Mori
Jockey: Yuga Kawada
Top Speed Rating: N/A
Total Earnings: $59,062
Sire: Speightstown
Dam: Mylady Curlin
Color: Dark bay/brown
The first of two shippers from Japan is Otomena Shacho. She was beaten seven lengths by compatriot American Bikini in a July maiden race, but subsequently returned to win a different maiden race in the fast time of 1:10.7, breaking a juvenile track record. Otomena Shacho is progressing in the right direction and may outrun her 20-1 morning-line odds at the Breeders’ Cup.
Non Compliant
Start(s): 2
Wins: 2
Place: 0
Show: 0
Owner: Georgia Antley Hunt, Jeff Giglio, and John L. Rogitz

Jockey: Juan Hernandez
Top Speed Rating: (96) when winning her debut at Del Mar.
Total Earnings: $165,000
Sire: Tiz the Law
Dam: Sensitively

Non Compliant has scratched from the Juvenile Fillies.
Nooni
Start(s): 4
Wins: 2
Place: 1
Show: 0
Owner: Zedan Racing Stables
Breeder: Ocala Stud, Joseph M. O’Farrell III, David O’Farrell, et al.

Jockey: Flavien Prat
Top Speed Rating: (95) when winning the Sorrento (G3) at Del Mar.
Total Earnings: $168,400
Sire: Win Win Win
Dam: Unanimity
Color: Bay
Sorrento (G3) winner Nooni has an abundance of early speed, which she used to finish a pacesetting second in the Oak Leaf (G2) last time out. But her past performances suggest distances shorter than 1 1/16 miles might be ideal for this daughter of Grade 1-winning sprinter Win Win Win.
American Bikini
Start(s): 3
Wins: 2
Place: 1
Show: 0
Owner: Silk Racing
Breeder: Northern Racing
Trainer: Takashi Saito
Jockey: Ryan Moore
Top Speed Rating: N/A
Total Earnings: $120,452
Sire: American Pharoah
Dam: Paris Bikini
Color: Dark bay/brown
The second Japanese raider is American Bikini. The daughter of 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah has set or equaled two juvenile track records in Japan and exits a decisive victory over males in the Yamaboshi Sho. There’s a lot of talent here, and American Bikini has a strong chance to win the Juvenile Fillies in her U.S. debut.
Scottish Lassie
Start(s): 2
Wins: 1
Place: 0
Show: 1
Owner: Sportsmen Stable, Parkland Thoroughbreds, Photos Finish, Corms Racing Stable, and Jorge R. Abreu
Breeder: Winchester Farm
Trainer: Jorge Abreu
Jockey: Jose Lezcano
Top Speed Rating: (92) when winning the Frizette (G1) at Aqueduct.
Total Earnings: $232,000
Sire: McKinzie
Dam: Bodebabe
Color: Dark bay/brown
Scottish Lassie might be the strongest of the American fillies after trouncing the Frizette by nine lengths with a 92 Brisnet Speed rating. As mentioned previously, the Frizette is a pivotal prep race for the Juvenile Fillies, producing seven of the last 13 Breeders’ Cup winners. Scottish Lassie has tactical speed and figures to work out a favorable trip from her outside draw, so her status as the 5-2 morning-line favorite is well deserved.
