Kanayama Holdings’ Herrschaft picked up 40 points on the 2020 Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby following a 2 1/2-length tally in the Fukuryu S. at Nakayama. The sophomore led throughout and completed the about 1 1/8 miles in 1:53.40 under Yusuke Fujikoa.

Herrscraft improved his lifetime line to 6-3-0-0, $323,050. The Kenji Nonaka trainee was previously fifth in the Hyacinth S. behind Cafe Pharoah.
The Kentucky-bred, who is not Triple Crown nominated, moved to the top of the Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby leaderboard with 40 points. Cafe Pharoah sits in second on 30 points, followed by Vacation with 20.
Herrschaft was bred in the Bluegrass State by Colts, and he went through the sales ring on a pair of occasions. The son of Will Take Charge attracted $110,000 as a weanling at 2017 Keeneland November, prior to bringing the gavel down at $200,000 at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale to his current connections.
The colt is the first black-type winner out of the Mr. Greeley mare Love Ava Love, who counts herself as a half-sister to stakes stars Global Power and Pegasusbystorm. He hails from the same female line as dual champion Alywow, Canada’s 1994 Horse of the Year, as well as Irish champion Speaking of Which.
