２５日、メイダン競馬場で行われたUAEダービー（G２、ダート２０００ｍ）は、UAE馬のサンダースノー（３牡、ビン・スルール厩舎）が、日本から遠征してきたエピカリス（３牡、萩原厩舎）との叩き合いを制し、優勝。このレースの勝ち馬に付与されるケンタッキーダービー（５月６日、チャーチルダウンズ競馬場）の出走馬選定ポイント（１００ポイント）を獲得した。 
1番人気に支持されたサンダースノーにとって、１６００ｍ以上の距離を走るのは今回が初めてだったが、好位をスムーズに追走。直線で外に逃げる場面があったものの、クリストフ・スミヨン騎手がすぐに立て直し、逃げたエピカリスをハナ差で捕らえた。
「４コーナーで外に行ってしまったし、残り２００ｍではゲート跡に驚くようなところもあったが、最後は差し切ってくれました。彼は本当のチャンピオンです」と騎乗したスミヨン騎手。 
サイード・ビン・スルール調教師はUAEダービー８勝目で、自身の持つ最多記録をひとつ伸ばした。「初距離だったけど、自信がありました。残り２００ｍでちょっと大変だったけど、この馬のことをよく知っているスミヨンがうまく立て直してくれましたね」と、ビン・スルール師。メイダン競馬場のダートには珍しい不良馬場だったこともあり、1:57.76の速い時計が出た。
今回の勝利でケンタッキーダービーの出走馬選定の１００ポイントを獲得しているが、フランスＧ１のクリテリウム・アンテルナシオナル（芝１４００ｍ、サンクルー競馬場）も優勝しており、欧州各国のGⅠレースにも出走できる。ビン・スルール調教師は「米国のケンタッキーダービーに登録していますが、フランスダービー、アイルランドダービー、イギリスダービーも選択肢に入っています。シェイク・モハメドと相談し、決めることになるでしょう」と語っている。
