Jim Bakke and Gerald Isbister’s Attachment Rate worked five furlongs in 1:01.20 over a fast main track Sunday morning at Churchill Downs as he completed his major preparations for Saturday’s 146th running of the $3 million Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (GI).

Later at Del Mar, Spendthrift Farm, MyRaceHorse Stable, Madaket Stables and Starlight Racing’s Authentic worked six furlongs at Del Mar in 1:12.40 under exercise rider Juan Ochoa.

Arriving at Churchill Downs Sunday morning at 10 o’clock (all times Eastern) following an overnight van ride from Palm Meadows was Reeves Thoroughbred Racing and Andie Biancone’s Sole Volante.

At nearby Trackside Louisville, Belladonna Racing’s Bayerness completed her major work for Friday’s 146th running of the $1.25 million Longines Kentucky Oaks (GI) by working a half-mile in company in :48.20 for trainer Cherie DeVaux.

Miracle’s International Trading Inc.’s Dream Marie arrived at Churchill Downs at 7:30 a.m. Sunday following an overnight van ride from Gulfstream Park West for trainer Matthew Williams.

Jim and Donna Daniell’s Rushie will target Saturday’s $500,000 Pat Day Mile presented by LG&E and KU rather than the Kentucky Derby, according to vice president of racing Ben Huffman

Juddmonte Farms’ Bonny South, trained by Brad Cox, was withdrawn from Oaks consideration.

ART COLLECTOR – Bruce Lunsford’s Art Collector jogged two miles at 7:30 a.m. Sunday with jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. in the saddle.

“If he’s happy, we’re happy,” said trainer Tommy Drury as he stood alongside his prized colt while he grazed near Barn 3. “He came out of his work in great shape and we’re just keeping him as happy as possible.”

ATTACHMENT RATE – Jim Bakke and Gerald Isbister’s $200,000 Ellis Park Derby runner-up Attachment Rate worked five furlongs in 1:01.20 Sunday morning with exercise rider Faustino Herrarte in the irons.

“I thought his race at Ellis made him worthy of trying the Derby,” trainer Dale Romans said. “This was his second work back from the (Ellis Park Derby) and we wanted to put a nice five-eighths move in him. He ran well over the winter in both the Gotham and the Unbridled. He hung in there pretty well to finish second behind Art Collector at Ellis.”

Attachment Rate is scheduled to walk the shedrow Monday.

AUTHENTIC – Spendthrift Farm, MyRaceHorse Stable, Madaket Stables and Starlight Racing’s Grade 1 winner Authentic completed his last bit of fine tuning in advance of his expected run in the 146th Kentucky Derby, covering six furlongs in 1:12.40 at Del Mar on Sunday morning.

With Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert keeping watch, Authentic worked solo with exercise rider Juan Ochoa in the irons en route to posting his fourth consecutive bullet move. The son of Into Mischief has had Baffert singing his praises with the way he has progressed since capturing the Haskell Stakes (GI) at Monmouth Park on July 18.

“Authentic is really doing well. I see him turning the corner,” Baffert said. “Both of my horses (Authentic and Thousand Words), I think they’re live. We just need some luck, you never know what is going to happen with that many horses in there.”

Authentic is scheduled to arrive at Churchill Downs on Monday on a flight from Southern California.

ENFORCEABLE – John Oxley’s Enforceable returned to the track a day after working a half-mile in :49.60 for a leisurely jog once around the track and a visit to the new Kentucky Derby starting gate under assistant trainer David Carroll.

Enforceable jogged in the mile chute before standing in the gate and then jogging around the track.

Adam Beschizza, who worked Enforceable Saturday morning, has the Derby mount.

FINNICK THE FIERCE – Arnaldo Monge and trainer Rey Hernandez’s Finnick the Fierce continued his Kentucky Derby training at The Thoroughbred Center in Lexington.

Seventh in the Blue Grass (GII) in his most recent start, Finnick the Fierce galloped a mile and a quarter this morning and will train there again Monday morning before vanning to Churchill Downs Monday afternoon.

Martin Garcia has the Derby mount.

HONOR A. P. – C R K Stable LLC’s Honor A. P. completed his final major workout by breezing seven furlongs Saturday afternoon in 1:27.20 over a fast Del Mar track about an hour before the first race. Regular rider Mike Smith was aboard.

The clockers caught the Honor Code ridgling in splits of :25.80, :37.80, :50.20, 1:02.80 and 1:14.80 before he completed the work and galloped out a mile in 1:40.80.

“I just wanted an easy seven-eighths,” trainer John Shirreffs told the Del Mar publicity office. “He got it; we’re good to go now.”

Honor A. P. is scheduled to ship to Churchill Downs on Monday.

KING GUILLERMO – Victoria’s Ranch’s King Guillermo walked the shedrow early Sunday morning following his :52.20 half-mile move Saturday.

MAJOR FED – Lloyd Madison Farm’s $300,000 Indiana Derby (GIII) runner-up Major Fed returned to the track Sunday following his sharp five-furlong move in :59 Friday at Churchill Downs.

Trained by Greg Foley, Major Fed schooled in the paddock before jogging about a mile with exercise rider Margarito Fierro aboard.

MAX PLAYER – George Hall and SportBLX Thoroughbred’s Max Player was one of the first Kentucky Derby probable entrants to train at Churchill Sunday, galloping 1 1/2 miles under Juan Vargas at 5:50 am.

MONEY MOVES – Robert LaPenta and Bortolazzo Stable’s Money Moves, who worked five furlongs in 1:00.14 at Saratoga on Friday for trainer Todd Pletcher, is scheduled to ship to Churchill Downs on Monday.

Money Moves returned to the track Sunday morning and galloped 1 3/8 miles and is scheduled to do the same Monday before shipping.

“The horse ran well last time out and has been training sharply,” said Pletcher, who is not coming to Louisville. “I felt like it’s an opportunity you don’t get very often. He’s doing well so we figured we would take a shot.

“We were really pleased with his breeze [Friday morning]. I thought it went extremely well and he came out of it in good shape [Saturday] morning. I spoke to [co-owner] Jerry Bortolazzo and everyone is excited about the opportunity. We figure it's a once in a lifetime opportunity for these guys to take a shot with a horse that is training well.”

Money Moves will be stabled in four-time Kentucky Derby winning trainer D. Wayne Lukas’ barn.

Javier Castellano has the Derby mount.

NECKER ISLAND – Raymond Daniels, Wayne Scherr and Will Harbut Racing’s Necker Island walked the shedrow at trainer Chris Hartman’s barn.

Third in the Ellis Park Derby and Indiana Derby (GIII) in his past two starts, Necker Island is scheduled to return to the track Monday morning. Miguel Mena has the Derby mount.

NY TRAFFIC – John Fanelli, Cash is King and Paul Beaverman’s Ny Traffic returned to the track for the first time since his Friday work (:59.45 for five furlongs) and jogged a mile at Saratoga. He is scheduled to join likely Kentucky Derby favorite Tiz the Law on a flight from upstate New York Monday.

Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. said the colt was “doing well” via text.

RUSHIE – Jim and Donna Daniell’s Rushie will target Saturday’s $500,000 Pat Day Mile presented by LG&E and KU rather than the Kentucky Derby, according to vice president of racing Ben Huffman

SOLE VOLANTE – Reeves Thoroughbred Racing and Andie Biancone’s Sole Volante arrived at Churchill Downs shortly after 10 a.m. after vanning from his South Florida base.

Trained by Patrick Biancone, Sole Volante will be ridden by Luca Panici.

STORM THE COURT – David Bernsen, Exline-Border Racing, Dan Hudock and Susanna Wilson’s Storm the Court, who worked six furlongs in 1:12.80 at Del Mar on Saturday, walked the shedrow Sunday morning at trainer Peter Eurton’s barn.

The 2019 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (GI) winner is scheduled to fly to Louisville Monday and Eurton will be here Tuesday morning.

Julien Leparoux has the Derby mount.

THOUSAND WORDS – Albaugh Family Stables and Spendthrift Farm’s Thousand Words walked the shedrow at Del Mar Sunday morning, a day after working five furlongs in :59.80 for trainer Bob Baffert.

TIZ THE LAW – Sackatoga Stable’s Tiz the Law walked the shedrow at trainer Barclay Tagg’s barn at Saratoga a day after working five furlongs in :59.21.

The presumptive favorite for Derby 146 is scheduled to arrive at Churchill Downs Monday.

Manny Franco has the Derby mount.

WINNING IMPRESSION – West Point Thoroughbreds’ and Pearl Racing’s graded stakes placed Winning Impression returned to the track to jog Sunday morning for trainer Dallas Stewart.

“It’s cliché but he seems to really be training well,” Stewart joked. “We’re in the big dance and we’ll be ready to roll.”

BAYERNESS – Belladonna Racing’s $200,000 Indiana Oaks (GIII) third-place finisher Bayerness worked a half-mile in :48.20 Sunday morning at Trackside Louisville – Churchill Downs’ training facility located three miles from the Twin Spires.

Trained by Cherie DeVaux, Bayerness worked outside of stablemate Reagans Edge and galloped out five-furlongs in 1:00.60, according to clocker Don Winfree.

BONNY SOUTH – Juddmonte Farm’s Alabama Stakes (GI) runner-up Bonny South will not run in the Oaks and will seek other options, according to vice president of racing Ben Huffman.

DONNA VELOCE – Kaleem Shah, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith’s Donna Veloce returned to the track at Del Mar Sunday morning to jog, two days after working five furlongs in 1:00.80 for trainer Simon Callaghan.

Callaghan said it is “50-50” whether he would come to Louisville, but coming for sure was his assistant, Carlos Santamaria who was at Churchill Downs for Callaghan with Firing Line for a runner-up finish in the 2015 Kentucky Derby and last year for the Oaks with Bellafina.

Donna Veloce is scheduled to fly to Kentucky Monday.

Ricardo Santana Jr. is scheduled to ride Donna Veloce in the Oaks.

DREAM MARIE – Miracle’s International Trading Inc.’s Dream Marie pulled into Churchill Downs around 7:30 a.m. and is scheduled to make her first appearance on the track in the morning, according to trainer Matthew Williams, who drove the horse van from his base at Gulfstream Park West. Dream Marie, coming off a fourth in the Monmouth Oaks (GIII), will be making just her third start outside of Florida, but that isn’t a concern to Williams.

“She’s a good shipper,” the trainer said. “We had a little rain outside of Georgia, but otherwise it was a good trip.”

GAMINE – Michael Lund Petersen’s Gamine, the probable favorite for Friday’s Kentucky Oaks, walked the shedrow at Del Mar Sunday morning, a day after working six furlongs in 1:11.60 for trainer Bob Baffert.

John Velazquez is named to ride Gamine, who is scheduled to arrive for the Oaks on Monday.

HOPEFUL GROWTH – St. Elias Stable’s Hopeful Growth trained over her home track at Monmouth Park at 5:25 a.m. and has her trainer Anthony Margotta excited heading into Friday’s Kentucky Oaks.

“She trained really well (Sunday),” Margotta said. “She has me excited. She’s coming around at the right time. Obviously, she’s a filly that has benefited from the new date because she wouldn’t have made the race in May.”

The Tapiture filly will train Monday and Tuesday at Monmouth before shipping to Louisville Tuesday afternoon.

She will be staying in Dale Romans’ barn and Manny Franco will have the Oaks mount.

PROJECT WHISKEY – Cash is King and LC Racing’s Project Whiskey galloped a mile and a half Sunday morning at Parx for trainer Butch Reid.

“She is doing very well and returned to the track this morning her breeze (:47.82 for a half-mile) on Friday,” Reid said via text. “She will gallop in the morning, ship out tomorrow evening and arrive Tuesday morning.”

Winner of the Delaware Oaks (GIII) and runner-up in the Monmouth Oaks (GIII) in her most recent start, Project Whiskey will be ridden in the Oaks by Paco Lopez.

SHEDARESTHEDEVIL – Flurry Racing Stables, Qatar Racing Limited and Big Aut Farms’ $200,000 Indiana Oaks (GIII) winner Shedaresthedevil galloped about 1 ½ miles Sunday morning with exercise rider Edvin Vargas in the boot.

“We won’t do much with her between now and the Oaks,” trainer Brad Cox said. “She’s fit, happy and ready to go.”

SPEECH – Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Madaket Stables and Heider Family Stables’ Speech jogged a mile under exercise rider Osman Cedeno while alongside a pony Harley at 5:30 Sunday morning for trainer Michael McCarthy.

Owning a record of three wins and three runner-up finishes in her six main track starts, Speech worked a half-mile here Friday in :47.60 and McCarthy likes what he has seen from her in Louisville.

“Speech is very spirited and puts a lot into her training, moreso than Rushie,” McCarthy said. “I thought her Ashland was fantastic and her work here was very good.”

Speech won the Ashland by three lengths in her most recent start in which she was ridden for the first time by Javier Castellano who will be aboard Friday.

SWISS SKYDIVER – Peter Callahan’s Swiss Skydiver, likely one of the top choices in the Kentucky Oaks, walked the shedrow of trainer Kenny McPeek’s barn, one day after completing her final bit of serious training Saturday with a half-mile breeze in :49.20.

The filly, who will be ridden in the Oaks by Tyler Gaffalione, got a thumbs up from assistant trainer Greg Geier.

TEMPERS RISING – Mark and Nancy Stanley’s Grade II placed filly Tempers Rising jogged one-mile early Sunday morning and is scheduled to gallop Monday, according to trainer Dallas Stewart.

SHAPING UP: THE KENTUCKY OAKS – Likely starters in the 146th running of the $1.25 million, Grade I Longines Kentucky Oaks to be run for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/8 miles on Friday, Sept. 4 in order of preference (with jockey): Swiss Skydiver (jockey Tyler Gaffalione); Speech (Javier Castellano); Shedaresthedevil (Florent Geroux); Project Whiskey (Paco Lopez); Donna Veloce (Ricardo Santana Jr.); Gamine (John Velazquez); Hopeful Growth (Manny Franco); Tempers Rising (Julien Leparoux); Dream Marie (Joe Talamo); Bayerness (TBA).

12 FILLIES START ON ROAD TO 2021 KENTUCKY OAKS IN THURSDAY’S POCAHONTAS – Although the 2020 Longines Kentucky Oaks (GI) will not be run until Friday, the first steps on the road to the 2021 Kentucky Oaks will start Thursday with the 52nd running of the $200,000 Pocahontas for 2-year-old fillies going a mile over the main track.

The Pocahontas tops an 11-race program Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. (all times Eastern) that also features the 14th running of the $115,000 Opening Verse Overnight Stakes for 4-year-olds and up going a mile over the Matt Winn Turf Course.

The Pocahontas, which will offer 17 points toward the 2021 Oaks on a 10-4-2-1 basis to the top four finishers, also serves as a “Win and You’re In” race for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (GI0 to be run Nov. 6 at Keeneland. Scheduled as the afternoon’s 10th race, the Pocahontas has a 5:58 post time.

Phoenix Thoroughbred’s undefeated Crazy Beautiful, a 3 ¾-length winner of the Ellis Park Debutante in her most recent start, headlines the field of 12 for the Pocahontas. Two-time Pocahontas winner Kenny McPeek trains Crazy Beautiful who will be ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr. and break from post position six.

Three-time Pocahontas winning trainer Dale Romans will send out the Albaugh Family Stables’ Girl Daddy. A 5 ½-length debut winner at Ellis Park last month, Girl Daddy will be ridden by Joe Talamo and break from post position 11.
