Kentucky Derby Horse Profile: Neoequos

C2 Racing Stable, Ian Parsard, Shining Stables, and Stefania Farms’ Neoequos has compiled 40 points on the 2025 Road to the Kentucky Derby challenge series leaderboard for conditioner Saffie Joseph Jr. The colt punched his ticket to Louisville in part by finishing third in the Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream Park on March 29 in his latest endeavor.

Neoequos debuted at Gulfstream on July 21 and didn’t finish after unseating his rider in a five-furlong maiden special weight dash for Florida-bred runners. He graduated in his second career outing on August 11 when toppling maiden foes by 2 1/2 lengths in a five-furlong heat, and then finished runner-up in a pair of stakes tries following his tally to close out his productive juvenile campaign.

The bay kicked off this season with a score in the allowance ranks on Jan. 23, and he preceded his Florida Derby run with a pace-setting, third-place finish in the Fountain of Youth S. (G2). His lifetime line currently reads 7-2-2-2, $291,050.

Neoequos was bred in the Sunshine State by Helen Barbazon, Joseph Barbazon, and Matalona Thoroughbreds, and is the first black-type runner produced from the stakes-placed Birdstone mare Bold Birdie, who counts herself as a half-sister to multiple stakes heroine Quality Lass. The colt was purchased for $22,000 at the 2023 OBS October Yearling Sale.

The son of Neolithic has registered Brisnet Speed figures of 92-96-91 from his trio of races in 2025. He has a nice foundation under him and also possesses excellent early speed, but the sophomore is unproven at the distance, and he has also never raced outside of Florida at this stage of his development. Neoequos will need a major move forward to challenge for a share in the Kentucky Derby as a longshot in the field.
