Wathnan Racing’s Flood Zone earned 50 points on the 2025 Road to the Kentucky Derby following his 3 1/4-length victory in the $300,000 Gotham S. (G3) at Aqueduct on March 1. The Brad Cox trainee clocked a mile on the fast main oval in 1:39.62 with regular pilot Reylu Gutierrez in the stirrups.
'We're going to take him back to Florida, enjoy this win, and then decide where to go,' Cox said of the colt. 'It was a question mark as to how far he wants to go because he was a young horse with just two starts when we got him, but he looked very good throughout today. It was a good performance, and I'm very proud of the horse.'
Flood Zone was an impressive winner on Saturday in the Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct.

Sand Devil, Garamond, My Mitole, and McAfee rounded out the top five and picked up qualifying points on a 25-15-10-5 structure, respectively.
Flood Zone commenced his career on December 7 in a six-furlong dash on the Gulfstream Park dirt and checked in second at first asking. Returning at the same venue for a 6 1/2-furlong heat on January 4, the son of Frosted pulled clear to a strong, 5 1/4-length triumph over Florida-bred foes. His lifetime line now reads 3-2-1-0, $203,800.
The winner was bred in the Sunshine State by Al Figliolia’s Westbury Stables, LLC and was purchased for $45,000 at OBS in June, prior to being acquired privately by his current connections. He is the first black-type winner produced from the Curlin mare Curls for Girls, who counts herself a half-sister to multiple stakes winners Sue’s Good News and Easyfromthegitgo. This is the same female family that is responsible for champion and prominent sire Cozzene.
Flood Zone has registered ascending Brisnet Speed numbers of 78-94-101 from his trio of career outings to date. His pedigree is filled with stamina influences throughout both his male and female lines, and he is a very interesting prospect going forward. If the bay colt proves to be capable of taking another step forward at two turns, then he could be an under-the-radar sophomore heading into the classic races in the spring.
