Flanagan Racing’s Chancer McPatrick earned 10 points on the 2025 Road to the Kentucky Derby challenge series following his 2 3/4-length score in the $500,000 Champagne S. (G1) at Aqueduct on Oct. 5. The Chad Brown trainee endured one mile on the fast main oval in 1:36.51 with Flavien Prat in the silks.
“He jumped well,” Prat said of his mount. “He jumped running and it felt like they just ran away from me, but I was outside and it was nice so I could take my time. Then I was trying to save a bit of ground, but it felt like nothing was developing inside and I felt like I was traveling well, so I made a move on the outside. He was traveling well without doing too much, and when I called on him turning for home, he responded positively.”
Tip Top Thomas, Mo Plex, Smoken Wicked, and Vekoma Rides rounded out the top five and earned points on a 5-3-2-1 structure, respectively.
Chancer McPatrick commenced his career at Saratoga on July 27 in a 6 1/2-furlong dash on the dirt, and the colt went last-to-first en route to a one-length score. He preceded his Champagne victory with a late-running triumph in the Hopeful S. (G1) at the Spa on Sept. 2. The bay has a career line that reads 3-3-0-0, $495,000.

The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by Rigney Racing and passed through the auction ring on a pair of occasions. He attracted a closing bid of $260,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, prior to bringing the gavel down at a healthy $725,000 at OBS in April.
The son of surging freshman sire McKinzie is the initial black-type winner produced from the winning Bernardini mare Bernadreamy. His second dam, Dream Empress, was victorious in the 2008 Alcibiades S. (G1) prior to finishing second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) that same season.
Chancer McPatrick has registered Brisnet Speed figures of 85-99-94 from his trio of performances to date while earning strong Late Pace numbers of 95-110-94. He is being pointed towards a start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Del Mar on Nov. 1, where the two-year-old colt will be among the top betting interests.
