Heading to the 151st Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 3, 2025? Whether you're a first-time guest or a returning Derby enthusiast, preparing properly will help you make the most of your day at Churchill Downs. With large crowds, high energy, and historic traditions, it’s important to know what to expect before you go.

🚗 Parking at the Kentucky Derby 2025

On-site parking at Churchill Downs is limited and not available for purchase. Your options are based on the type of ticket you have:

Kentucky Exposition Center Parking:

Located nearby with free roundtrip shuttles to and from Churchill Downs. This is the recommended choice for visitors who have tickets on the frontside of the facility. Tickets must be shown at KEC to be granted entry to the lots.

L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium Parking:

Paid parking is available at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium beginning on Thursday/Thurby.  This option is for guests with infield tickets to park and walk to Churchill Downs down Central Avenue.

Other options include:

Ride-sharing apps (designated pick-up and drop-off areas are available at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium)
Walking from nearby areas

👉 Plan to arrive early, as traffic builds significantly on Derby Day. Additionally, traffic builds up after the race. There are two additional races following the Kentucky Derby giving you plenty of time to make your exit to the shuttles or walk to your designated parking area.

🚫 Prohibited Items at Churchill Downs

Churchill Downs has strict security and safety policies, and all guests must pass through screening upon entry. Here’s a list of common items you cannot bring:

• Coolers and backpacks
• Outside food and beverages (unless medically necessary)
• Cans, glass bottles, and thermoses
• Selfie sticks, tripods, and camera lenses over 6 inches
• Drones or remote-controlled aircraft
• Weapons of any kind (including pocketknives)
• Umbrellas
• Signs, banners, and noisemakers
• Laptop computers, tablets, and radios

💡 Allowed Items include:

• Clear bags (12”x6”x12”) or small clutches (no larger than 6.5”x4.5”)
• Sunscreen, binoculars, cell phones, and seat cushions
• Folding chairs (for Infield GA only; must be removed from carrying bag)
