Expert Play of the Week: Mrs. Revere Stakes
Nov 12, 2020 John Mucciolo/TwinSpires.com
A talented field of seven sophomore fillies will travel 1 1/16 miles on the Churchill Downs turf in Saturday’s $200,000 Mrs. Revere (G2). The grassy headliner features a well-matched group lacking a standout, in what could be a very good betting event.
The lightly raced Princess Grace suffered her first career setback when runner-up in the Valley View (G3) at Keeneland in her latest showing, but I think that she will turn the tables and get it done in her Churchill Downs debut. She is the Expert Pick of the Week.
Trained by Michael Stidham, the 3-year-old daughter of Karakonite debuted at Colonial Downs on August 2 and dominated like a fine prospect, drawing clear to a powerful five-length victory. The John and Susan Moore homebred raced at Monmouth Park in her first appearance with winners second time out and once again pulled away late, this time registering a 1 ¾-length tally.
In the Valley View when making her stakes bow, the dark bay miss made a big move to take a healthy lead nearing midstretch before ultimately finishing second. She shows a pair of morning drills in the interim, and Princess Grace gets a fine rider upgrade to Florent Geroux for Saturday, as well.
Hendy Woods draws the rail and has the right running style to be a major presence in the Mrs. Revere for conditioner Mark Casse. The stakes-winning daughter of Uncle Mo, who faced better in the Queen Elizabeth II (G1) at Keeneland most recently, has very good tactical speed in a field lacking a lot of pace. She figures to get first run at the top of the lane with Tyler Gaffalione in the controls.
Stunning Sky had gone close on multiple occasions in the stakes ranks prior to coming out on top in the Valley View. The Declaration of War filly has a fine turn of foot, though she will not receive the same swift pace on Saturday to aid her late burst. The Mike Maker trainee is an obvious contender with her top showing, however.
