Expert Pick of the Week: Street Sense Stakes

A field of seven will go postward in the $98,000 Street Sense S. at Churchill Downs on Sunday. The opening day co-feature is part of the 11-race Stars of Tomorrow I card, and it looks like a very competitive event which lacks a standout.

In a cast that is short on early speed, second-time starter Eucharist figures to get a fine trip while always close to the tempo. The WinStar Farm homebred was a smart debut victor at Keeneland while forcing the early action, and I envision him enduring a similar type of voyage in the Street Sense. He is the Expert Pick of the Week.

Trained by Rodolphe Brisset, Eucharist is out of a stakes heroine and has some class to him as well. The gelded bay held off a trio of well-meant prospects at first asking after opening up a healthy lead in the lane, and improvement is fully expected in his second career assignment.

The February foal gives me the impression of a juvenile who could shine at middle distances. Tyler Gaffalione will be in the controls atop the youngster.

Super Stock has put in a pair of admirable third-place efforts while facing better as of late for Steve Asmussen. The son of Dialed In was well clear in the show spot in both the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) and Iroquois (G3), and his form since transferring to the main strip has been strong. I will tab the colt to make a run from just off the pace and to challenge for the victory late under Ricardo Santana Jr.

Expert Pick

An exacta with #5 Eucharist over #7 Super Stock is the Best Bet of the Week.
