Edgeway, Four Graces among eight seeking Oaks points in Dogwood
Jun 04, 2020 by James Scully/TwinSpires.com
With the Kentucky Oaks (G1) being rescheduled for Sept. 4, Saturday’s $100,000 Dogwood (G3) at Churchill Downs has been added as a qualifier. Last-out allowance winners Edgeway and Four Graces are top contenders in the 7-furlong test, which will awards points on a 20-8-4-2 scale as part of the Road to the Kentucky Oaks series.
After finishing a close third behind Kamari and Frank’s Rockette in the April 4 Purple Martin S. at Oaklawn Park, Edgeway rolled to a convincing tally over entry-level allowance foes three weeks later. The John Sadler-trained daughter of Competitive Edge has registered Brisnet Speed ratings as high as 98, and Tyler Baze retains the mount on the dark bay.
Four Graces, a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner McCraken, should compete for favoritism following a sharp win on the May 16 opening day at Churchill, scoring at Saturday’s distance, and the Majesticperfection filly netted a 97 Brisnet Speed figure. Julien Leparoux will be up for Ian Wilkes.
Other runners include Magic Dance, winner of the Debutante S. under the Twin Spires last summer; Laurel Park stakes heroine Naughty Thoughts; Grade 2-placed Lady Glamour; and Bayerness, who posted a commendable allowance win over Swiss Skydiver at Churchill last November.
