Crazy Beautiful will head to the April 30 Kentucky Oaks at
Churchill Downs with momentum following a sharp last-to-first win in Saturday’s
$200,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2), breaking through for her first stakes
victory.
Kenny McPeek trains the three-year-old daughter of Liam’s
Map for Phoenix Thoroughbred III, and Jose Ortiz guided the gray filly.
The 1 1/16-mile race awarded points on a 100-40-20-10 basis
as a major Kentucky Oaks qualifier.
Crazy Beautiful was exiting a runner-up finish in her first start of the year, the Feb. 27 Davona Dale S. (G2) at Gulfstream, and she also
finished second in the Alcibiades S. (G1) at Keeneland last fall.
Off as the 2-1 second choice, Crazy Beautiful rated last of
seven before moving into contention on the far turn. She swung wide for the
stretch drive and rolled past runner-up Millefeuille to win going away by 2 1/4
lengths.
Millefeuille held
second by 1 3/4 lengths over Competitive Speed, and 6-5 pacesetter Con Lima
weakened to fourth. Pens Street, Bow Bow Girl, and Len Lo Lady completed the
order.
Bred in Kentucky by Carolyn Vogel, Crazy Beautiful won her
first two starts last summer at Ellis Park, including the Debutante S. She’s
now earned $388,365 from a 7-3-3-0 record.
