Nine horses will vie for 20-10-6-4-2 Road to the Kentucky Derby qualification in Sunday’s $400,000 Sunland Park Derby at Sunland Park.

Saturday’s $500,000 Risen Star (G2) at Fair Grounds is the first Kentucky Derby (G1) qualifier of the year worth 50-25-15-10-5 points to the top five finishers, which virtually guarantees the winner a spot in the Derby starting gate.

A competitive 10-horse field has assembled for Saturday’s $250,000 Sam F. Davis S. at Tampa Bay Downs, a 1 1/16-mile Road to the Kentucky Derby qualifier worth 20-10-6-4-2 points to the top five finishers.

The Robert B. Lewis has produced a trio of Kentucky Derby winners since the 1980s, most recently I’ll Have Another in 2012.

At 1 1/8 miles in distance, Saturday’s $250,000 Withers S. at Aqueduct is the longest Road to the Kentucky Derby qualifier contested thus far in 2025.

Thanks in no small part to its $1 million purse, Saturday’s 1 1/16-mile Southwest (G3) at Oaklawn Park has drawn a strong field to vie for 42 Road to the Kentucky Derby qualification points split 20-10-6-4-2 among the top five finishers.
