The $100,000 Bourbonette Oaks (G3) on Saturday at Turfway Park drew a contentions field of 11 sophomore fillies to go a mile over the synthetic Polytrack, and the final two runners in the gate have been made the morning-line favorites.
The Bourbonette Oaks is part of the Championship portion of the Road to the Kentucky Oaks, and awards 20-8-4-2 points for a starting berth in the May 4 Kentucky Oaks (G1).
Bet She Wins will try to take home the majority of those points while making her fifth lifetime start for trainer Chris Block. The First Samurai filly began her career on the turf at Arlington Park, claiming a maiden win via disqualification in August, before romping by 9 1/2 lengths at 13-1 when switching to that venue’s Polytrack on September 9. She tried dirt last out at Keeneland but was no factor finishing sixth in the Alcibiades Stakes (G1).
Albin Jimenez will be aboard Bet She Wins Saturday as the filly leaves the gate as the 3-1 second favorite on the morning line.
Go Noni Go will break just outside of Bet She Wins as the 5-2 morning-line favorite. The Mike Maker pupil will be trying an all-weather track for the first time after posting six of her eight lifetime starts on turf. Her most recent effort came as a fifth-placing in the Sweetest Chant Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park on February 3 under returning jockey Tyler Gaffalione. The Get Stormy filly recorded a six-length romp against allowance/optional claiming rivals one race before that.
Maker also sends out Homemade Salsa and Queen’s Fate in this spot. The former captured the Juvenile Fillies Turf Stakes at Gulfstream Park West last November and exits a third-placing in the Cincinnati Trophy Stakes over Turfway’s Polytrack on February 9. Queen’s Fate ran second by a nose in the Ontario Lassie Stakes on Woodbine’s synthetic Tapeta prior to a last-of-nine finish in the grassy Sweetest Chant in her past pair. Chris Landeros rides Homemade Salsa while Rafael Hernandez pilots Queen’s Fate.
Consolida brings a two-race win streak into this spot after rallying for a 1 1/4-length victory in the California Oaks over Golden Gate Fields’ Tapeta on February 10. That was the Paddy Gallagher trainee’s U.S. and sophomore debut and made her two-for-two on all-weather surfaces. The English-bred miss ran fifth beginning her career on the turf at Newmarket last September before earning her first win next out on Newcastle’s synthetic in October. Drayden Van Dyke has the call Saturday.
In the Mood was a head victress of the Cincinnati Trophy Stakes most recently to make it two-for-two over Turfway’s Polytrack. The Stephen Sandy pupil retains the services of jockey John McKee, aboard for those efforts, in this spot as she tries to make it three-in-a-row.
Mauk’s Tuff ran second to In the Mood in a Turfway allowance/optional claimer on December 23 and filled that same spot in an allowance over the track on February 1. Trainer Bill Mauk has tabbed Alberto Pusac to stay in the saddle.
Hey Negrita broke her maiden by 4 3/4 lengths at Turfway in December but was no factor when switched to Fair Grounds’ turf for her sophomore bow against allowance/optional claimers. The Marshall Godsey Jr. trainee tries for a return to the winner’s circle with Mitchell Murrill aboard for the first time.
Classy Music attempts Polytrack for the first time for trainer Kenny McPeek. The dark bay miss was third against allowance foes most recently and gets Alan Garcia aboard. Child’s Play took her first win by 15 lengths against maiden claimers but hasn’t factored in three races since. She makes her first start over synthetic and for new conditioner Gerald Brooks here with Jack Gilligan holding the reins. Mo Flash didn’t break her maiden until switching to the main track at Aqueduct from Woodbine’s turf and Polytrack. Gabriel Saez has the call for trainer Mark Casse.
