'All Others' 4-1 Favorite, Baffert-Trained Barnes 6-1 in Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 3

With the Kentucky Derby still 15 weeks away, the pari-mutuel field of “All Other 3 Year Olds” closed as the mild 4-1 favorite in Pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW) and San Vicente (Grade II) winner Barnes, from the barn of six-time Derby winner Bob Baffert, was the 6-1 second choice.
Other horses who attracted mild interest from bettors: fast 10 ½-length maiden winner Patch Adams (12-1), who runs in Saturday’s $1 million Southwest (GIII) at Oaklawn Park; Breeders’ Futurity (GI) winner East Avenue (15-1); and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (Grade I) winner Citizen Bull (17-1).

Total handle for the Jan. 17-19 KDFW pool – the third of six scheduled wagering pools in advance of the 151st running of the $5 million Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (GI) on Saturday, May 3 – was $328,150 ($254,139 in the Win pool and $74,011 in Exactas, a slight 1.9% dip from last year’s $334,472 ($254,977 in the Win pool and $79,495 in Exactas).
A total of $841,165 has been bet on Derby future wagers thus far compared to $809,662 at this stage last year – a 3.9% increase.
Inaugurated in 1999, the Kentucky Derby Future Wager has been offered for a 27th consecutive year.
Other Future Wager dates are set for Feb. 14-16 (Pool 4); March 14-16 (Pool 5) and April 3-5 (Pool 6). Pool 5 will include the Longines Kentucky Oaks Future Wager.
