Trainer Robert Medina’s first graded stakes winner Liberal Arts could potentially also become his first Kentucky Derby starter.

A homebred for Stephen and Evan Ferraro, Liberal Arts is from the final crop of the outstanding four-time Grade 1 winner Arrogate. His progeny have an average winning distance well above seven furlongs and include Grade 1 winners Arcangelo, Secret Oath, and Cave Rock.

Liberal Arts is the third winner out of the stakes-winning mare Ismene, a daughter of the good Californian sire Tribal Rule (Storm Cat).

Though many of his progeny were speedsters, Tribal Rule’s progeny won up to 1 1/4 miles at Grade 1 level and combined with Arrogate’s stamina, they give Liberal Arts a good chance of staying the Kentucky Derby journey.
