Starlight Racing, Sf Racing, Madaket Stables, Stonestreet Stables, et al’s Citizen Bull received 30 qualifying points on the 2025 Road to the Kentucky Derby challenge series following his 1 1/2-length tally in the $1.84 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile  S. (G1) at Del Mar on November 1. The wire-to-wire winner clocked 1 1/16 miles on the fast dirt oval in 1:43.07 with Martin Garcia in the stirrups.

Gaming, Hill Road, Getaway Car, and Ferocious rounded out the top five and picked up qualifying points on a 15-9-6-3 basis.

Garcia stated of his mount, “My horse was just running easy early and the other horse (Gaming) was just cruising in second. And, when it was time to go, the horse just took off.”

Trained by Bob Baffert, Citizen Bull improved his lifetime line to 4-3-0-1, $1,301,000. The son of Into Mischief was unveiled on August 17 at Del Mar and produced a game score in a 5 1/2-furlong dash on the dirt, and he checked in third in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) in his second career appearance on September 8. Citizen Bull preceded his Breeders’ Cup success with a two-length score in the American Pharoah S. (G1) at Santa Anita on October 5.

The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by Robert and Lawana Low and fetched a final bid of $675,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He is the first black-type winner out of the unraced Distorted Humor mare No Joke, who counts herself as a half-sister to 2017 Del Mar Debutante (G1) and Chandelier S. (G1) queen Moonshine Memories, as well as the stakes-winning Indian Evening. This is the same female line as 1997 Horse of the Year Favorite Trick.

Citizen Bull has earned Brisnet Speed figures of 92-91-100-107 from four career races to date, and he has registered hefty Late Pace numbers of 107 and 109 in his pair of route races, as well. The impressive juvenile is surely a major contender going forward into his three-year-old season.
