Lightstream remains perfect with Beaumont victory

Up Hill Stables and Head of Plains Partners LLC’s Lightstream moved her record to a perfect two-for-two on Sunday with a three-quarter length victory in the $150,000 Beaumont (G3) under jockey Julien Leparoux.

Trained by Brian Lynch, Lightstream bided her time in fourth as R Girls a Charmer set the pace while chased by Nickname. That Grade 1-winning filly took over rounding the turn but found Lightstream closing fast up the rail.

Lightstream got up in to time to grab the lead and finish seven furlongs over Keeneland’s fast track in 1:26.67.

In the process, the bay miss earned 10 points toward a starting berth in the May 6 Kentucky Oaks (G1), as the Beaumont was the final race in the Road to the Kentucky Oaks series of points contests, but that’s not enough for her to make the field even if her connections were pointing her for the nine-furlong affair.

Nickname secured her place in the Oaks starting gate, if her connections choose to send her, with four points for taking second by 1 1/2 lengths over Kinsley Kisses. R Girls a Charmer rounded out the top four while American Doll completed the five-filly field.

Lighstream broke her maiden in her March 6 debut at Gulfstream Park going seven furlongs, earning a very nice 104 BRIS Speed rating for that effort. She’s now accumulated $117,000 in career earnings to go along with her unbeaten mark.

The Harlan’s Holiday filly is out of the stakes-winning Arch mare North Beach, who is a half-sister to Grade 3 victor Kilgowan. This is the same female family as champion and sire Afleet Alex, who captured the 2005 Preakness (G1) and Belmont (G1) after running third in that year’s Kentucky Derby (G1).
